Spójnia Stargard, also known as shortly Spójnia, is a professional Polish basketball team based in Stargard, Poland, currently (as of 2022) playing in the Polish Basketball League (PLK), the highest tier in Polish basketball.
Spójnia hosts its games at the Hala Miejska.
History
Spójnia Stargard was founded in 1949 as multi-sport club. Its first chairman was Józef Tropaczyński, former member of the Polish resistance movement in World War II and Lieutenant of the Anders' Army.
In the 1996–97 season, Spójnia for the first time in its history reached the finals of the Polish Basketball League, which it lost to Znicz Pruszków.
In May 2018, Spójnia promoted to the PLK after winning the I Liga championship as the team beat Sokół Łańcut 3–0 in the playoff finals. In its debut 2018–19 season, the team finished as 13th with a 9–21 record.
In the 2019 offseason, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna became main sponsor of the team which was re-named PGE Spójnia. In the 2020–21 season, Spójna reached the final of the 2021 Polish Basketball Cup. The team lost the final 86–73 to Zielona Góra in Lublin.
Spojnia Stargard ist ein polnischer Basketballverein mit Sitz in Stargard, Polen. Der Verein spielt in der ersten polnischen Basketballliga, der Polska Liga Koszykówki (PLK).
Geschichte:
Spojnia Stargard wurde 1947 gegründet. In den frühen Jahren spielte der Verein in niedrigeren Ligen des polnischen Basketballs. In den 1970er Jahren stieg Spojnia in die höchste Spielklasse auf und etablierte sich zu einem der führenden Teams in Polen.
1977 gewann Spojnia seine erste nationale Meisterschaft und wiederholte diesen Erfolg 1978. Der Verein gewann auch den polnischen Pokal in den Jahren 1978, 1981 und 1982.
In den 1980er und 1990er Jahren erlebte Spojnia einen Rückgang mit mehreren Abstiegen und Aufstiegen zwischen der ersten und der zweiten Liga. Im Jahr 2008 kehrte der Verein in die PLK zurück und spielt seitdem dort.
International:
Spojnia Stargard hat mehrmals an europäischen Wettbewerben teilgenommen. Der Verein erreichte das Viertelfinale des FIBA Saporta Cups 1991 und des FIBA EuroChallenge Cups 2009.
Stadion:
Spojnia Stargard trägt seine Heimspiele in der Regionalsporthalle Stargard aus, die eine Kapazität von 2.500 Zuschauern hat.
